Korean Air pilot interview questions and selection process
How Korean Air selects pilots: 6 selection stages and 4 interview questions from candidates' accounts. Use them to practise; they are examples, not official answers.
Selection stages
- Application via recruitment agency (KAL does not hire expats directly)
- Travel to Seoul/Incheon
- Simulator pre-check by Korean sim instructors (LOFT + proficiency check)
- Medical (blood, urine, hearing, chest X-ray, abdominal ultrasound, eyes, ECG/EEG)
- Psychometric/personality test
- Interview with pilot(s) and HR (older reports: flight admin, chief pilot, expat line-ops adviser, expat audit captain)
Tests
- Personality questionnaire (self-description and 'would you rather' items)
Simulator check
Type-rated expat sim: ~20-min brief, approach plates provided, KAL performance book; takeoffs at different weights/assumed temperature; LOFT + proficiency check.
By rank
- Captain: Expat contracts mainly for type-rated captains (agency-led).
