Part of the Air T group
Rex entered voluntary administration in July 2024 and its Boeing 737 jet operation ended. US company Air T bought the group through a deed of company arrangement that creditors approved in November 2025, and Rex left administration on 18 December 2025. It still runs a regional Saab 340 network. Its careers site has standing all-year expressions of interest for Saab 340 First Officers and Captains (Nov 2026). A Brisbane-based Saab 340 Captain advert closed on 13 May 2026. Perth and Sydney Saab 340 Captain adverts closed on 20 Sept 2026. Bases listed here are only those named in 2026 adverts (Brisbane for pilots; Cairns and Wagga Wagga for cabin crew), so the real crew-base list is longer.
Pay
Unofficial figures. Not from an agreement or the airline: collected from pilot forums, salary sites and other public sources. Treat them as indicative.
First officer
AUD 70,000–90,000 a year
about $49–63k a year
Captain
AUD 130,000–180,000 a year
about $91–126k a year
PAY FIGURES (unofficial, low confidence): FO AUD 70,000–90,000 a year base after line training, rising above AUD 100,000 with experience and overtime; Captain AUD 130,000–180,000 a year. Both ranges come from the PPL Prep guide 'Pilot Salaries Australia' (published 19 Jul 2025, updated 13 Aug 2026), a flight-training blog, not Rex or the union. The captain range may partly reflect the former jet operation. For comparison, the PilotJobsNetwork wiki for Regional Express (user-edited) gives a Captain range of AUD 102,387 (base) to 124,208.70 (top), last updated 14 Apr 2024. Its FO figures date from Nov 2014: training salary AUD 39,478, AUD 54,099 after check to line, and AUD 66,528 at 10 years. Both sources give a duty allowance of about AUD 7 per duty hour, tax-free on overnights. During the 2023 jet operation, Easy Aviation Theory (Mar 2023, updated Aug 2023) listed B737 rates of AUD 129,820 (FO, years 1-2) and AUD 202,420 (Captain, years 1-2). The jet operation has closed, so those rates are history only. Official rates are in the EA described below. Pilots are permanent full-time employees under the Regional Express Pilots' Enterprise Agreement 2022 (FWC ref AE518491), a four-year deal that 86% of Saab pilots voted for in November 2022. Rex's job adverts link to this agreement for pay and conditions. Press coverage from November 2022 gives the agreed rises as a 5.1% increase from 1 July 2022, plus catch-up payments worth another 8% once the business returned to profit (Australian Aviation, 7 Nov 2022). The salary tables themselves sit only in the FWC PDF, which could not be opened from this research environment, and no reliable public source repeats the dollar rates. A new Regional Express Airline Services Collective Agreement 2025-2028 (AE533824) was approved on 20 Aug 2026 and runs to 30 June 2028. Whether it covers pilots could not be checked. Cadets (Australian Airline Pilot Academy) repay a Rex Cadet Loan from their Rex salary under a seven-year commitment; see requirements.bond.
